The foundation of New Zealand’s health system is general medical services. Our GPs and nurses at Oamaru Doctors are in an excellent position to get to know you well and understand your individual healthcare needs.
As well as assisting you to deal with illnesses, we want to help you to maintain your good health. When you come to see us, we are thinking broadly about your well-being and we are able to provide a wide range of services, as they are needed by you from time to time.
For example, with our focus on prevention, we have a reminder system (“recalls”) for when you are due for routine checks such as smears, cholesterol blood tests, immunisations and annual diabetic reviews. Even when referral for specialist advice or tests is needed, your doctor will help you with the process and continue to manage your ongoing healthcare needs.
We value cultural diversity and we strive to be sensitive to our patients’ cultural backgrounds.
Please inform your doctor of all the reasons for your visit and what is most important to you.
If an examination is required, you may request a chaperone. It is our policy to have a chaperone present for all genital and breast examinations performed by a doctor of the opposite gender.
If your first language is not English or you are hearing impaired, you may request an interpreter. Please inform our reception staff prior to your appointment and this can be arranged for you.
It is your responsibility to keep your contact details updated. If your phone number or address changes, please inform us a soon as possible as we may need to contact you urgently.
Thank you for respecting our staff at all times. they are precious to us and we have the right to decline to care for angry or abusive patients.
We ask you to please turn off your mobile phone before seeing the doctor or nurse.
! Covid-19, Level 3 ! Tuesday, April 28, 2020
To our patient community:
We would like to thank you for your ongoing support, your acceptance of the new processes in place and your patience. Level 3 doesn’t really change the way we are working at the moment. The majority of our consultations are taking place as a video consult (or over the phone if you can’t access a device or a computer). You can still book online but you will only be able to book a video/phone consultation over the portal.
However, some patients still need to come into the surgery. We are here for you! Please call us to make an appointment. We ask you to notify us of your arrival (please call from your car or “wave” to our Reception team from the entrance door) and then please wait in your car until we call you to come directly into the doctor’s room.
Flu vaccines are going ahead. Please call to book an appointment. We are still not able to administer flu vaccines at the surgery. The procedure will be done in your car. Thanks for your understanding.
Updates will be posted on the website as they occur. Your cooperation is much appreciated. Please be aware of the pressure on our staff, we are doing our best to provide the services you require.
