The foundation of New Zealand’s health system is general medical services. Our GPs and nurses at Oamaru Doctors are in an excellent position to get to know you well and understand your individual healthcare needs.
As well as assisting you to deal with illnesses, we want to help you to maintain your good health. When you come to see us, we are thinking broadly about your well-being and we are able to provide a wide range of services, as they are needed by you from time to time.
For example, with our focus on prevention, we have a reminder system (“recalls”) for when you are due for routine checks such as smears, cholesterol blood tests, immunisations and annual diabetic reviews. Even when referral for specialist advice or tests is needed, your doctor will help you with the process and continue to manage your ongoing healthcare needs.
We value cultural diversity and we strive to be sensitive to our patients’ cultural backgrounds.
Please inform your doctor of all the reasons for your visit and what is most important to you.
If an examination is required, you may request a chaperone. It is our policy to have a chaperone present for all genital and breast examinations performed by a doctor of the opposite gender.
If your first language is not English or you are hearing impaired, you may request an interpreter. Please inform our reception staff prior to your appointment and this can be arranged for you.
It is your responsibility to keep your contact details updated. If your phone number or address changes, please inform us a soon as possible as we may need to contact you urgently.
Thank you for respecting our staff at all times. they are precious to us and we have the right to decline to care for angry or abusive patients.
We ask you to please turn off your mobile phone before seeing the doctor or nurse.
